Bizarre Creations was nice enough to send us these three short but intense multiplayer videos of Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved 2. It's also worth mentioning that the game will be released next week instead of the one after!

Nuts!

I can't even get past the part in Geo Wars 1 arround the 150000 mark when the game goes nuts.. My highscore is 166400..

Meh... the difficulty of GW at 150,000 points is FAR from "going nuts."

That's barely beyond just getting started.

If that's the case it's pretty clear I suck at these kind of games and such they are not for me.. I'll stick to failing at Geo Wars 1 then and probably not waist anymore money on part deux.. :P

I thought co-op was confirmed to be local only?

yeah local only apparently.

Also the IGN preview said that there are no weapon upgrades like in the first one, just that the weapon you start with is more powerful.

I can't wait for this though, july 30th will be a good day!

Kickass. One of the very reasons why xbla is so brilliant. Now if only they can slip in Duke Nukem 3d this summer and it will be utter bliss.

It's a shame they couldn't get co-op over live but im guessing with the speed of the action it would be almost impossible what with lag and all.

Oh. My. God. This is SO much better than the first two, not that they were bad, but multiplayer on the third? Beautiful.

A game like GW simply absolutely could NOT work online.

Thanks to the lazy government and lax standards for broadband, most people in the fanbase's primary country (the US) don't have a connection capable of sustaining necessary levels of latency. With that said, in a game like GW it is of absolute important for the latency between ALL PLAYERS to be less than 5 ms. Anything more will result in unnecessary deaths.

Some people could probably tolerate lagging in GW, but those of us more "hardcore" guys would probably just be pissed.

Looks pretty as always, though.

Oh then you obviously are stone-old.

I love the game, but I don't know yet if I buy it. It costs 800 points.

Since Microsoft allowed games to be bigger and created a new price class, all new games became more expensive.

I havent seen a game for 400p recently... :(

There, they explain y online-mode would not work.
Take any fps, there are about 20 movng objects at a time on a map and still sometimes the lag is just ridiculous.

In Geometry Wars, sometimes even more then 100 objects are on the screen at once which means the lag would be 5x worse. In a game where often only some pixels decide about who lives and who dies, such a lag would ache many arses.

All blablabla excuses again about bandwidth.. Long live the lowest common denominator nature of Xbox Live..

My 50Mbit FTH connection wouldn't have a single problem with 1000000 objects.. But because most people still have relative lousy internetconnections, and MS wants to keep the experience the same for everybody, they inforce these limitations..

Lag? What's that? ;)

More important than bandwidth is ping! In Goemetry Wars you could feel a 10ms lag!

So companies should make games with the assumption that everybody has 50Mb connections that are running at 100% all of the time just to please you? If Xbox Live was aimed at the lowest common denominator then they wouldn't require you to have broadband and would allow dial-up access.
