The Collective's Silent Hill: Homecoming was also at IDEF, and we brought you two gameplay videos showcasing both levels of the PS3 demo. The first one, about ten minutes long, takes place in the good ol' Alchemilla Hospital - exploration, puzzles and zombie nuns at the menu. The second one, shorter, takes place in a foggy cemetery populated with hungry skinned dogs. Luckily, I had a crowbar...

Wow, looks miles better in motion than older screens.
Combat looks abit weak, but then again that has never been Silent Hills strongest point.

After some horrible screens, I can say that this is looking awesome! Few resident evil gameplay touches, which is nice. Also the silent hill feeling is still there, japanese guys are keeping eye on the US team, so they would not screw the atmosphere. Good job so far!

Wow, starting scene from video1, completely cut off from Jacob's Ladder.
I know the all series is somehow inspired from that movie(some things at least) but c'mon, this is a total rip off XD

Anyway the "American Horror Through Japanese Eyes" is now become "American Horror Through American Eyes".
meh :/

(And i'm a silent Hill "fanboy" XD)

The initial hospital scene is very reminiscent of Hostel/Jacobs Ladder and the environmental transformation is well done but apart from that there is nothing eye catching. Horrible, fidgety combat and how utterly tedious did the graveyard based scene look?

Different games but in comparison, RE5 (technically at least) looks to be several generations ahead.

Diving into this game with low expectations, one can probably come out "fairly" surprised, in a good way.

I hope.

This game simply doesn´t feel right. They are missing alot of "Silent Hill" touches. I will never understand why Konami made an american company make a japanese game...

Not exactly sure what 'touches' this miss, it feels way more Silent Hill then the 4th game did, also the only silent hill I never bothrered to play true.

It looked quite crap at start but after seeing it in motion I'm quite sold, it feels very much like silent hill :)

You did wrong.

True that it has an akward pacing & hub system, but the strong silent hill story-driven play, its still there.

it's kinda the Metroid: Hunters to the Metroid Primes. But in a better way.

Animations make this game leaps and bounds better than Alone in the Dark already
Combat seems fine to me

To be fair RE5 looks ahead of everything! By the way I like the "I'm crapping my pants here!" look of the main character, lol!

I was gonna watch these, but then decided not to. I know I want the game, so I want this to be the first game I ever buy where I don't already know everything there is to know about it before actually playing. This should be a fun experiment! yeah....

this actually peaked my interest a little. but its lacking something. and whatever that something is its a basis of the silent hill identity, and without it the game doesnt look scary, or like silent hill for that matter.

its lost that subdued feeling. and that sense of mystery...silent hill 1/2 had this. you felt lost, and weak and was eased into the experience, glimpses of monsters through the fog, but not knowing what was really going on. this seems to lack that feeling. its almost as if its revealing too much too fast. where silent hill used to be "the ring" to resident evils "dawn of the dead". this is more like the hills have eyes.

Oooh, great atmosphere, creeped me a little when that wheelchair fell down the stairs. The opening is really impressive, reminiscent of Call of Cthulhu (haven't seen Jacob's Ladder :P). That puzzle with the X-ray was kinda cool to get the numbers for the code on Josh's cell. What's up with that kid??? :o

The game definitely looks good quality-wise, but I'm just not all that excited for this. I like how they tried something really different with The Room, if only they executed it better. For some reason I feel like that installment of SH hurt Konami and they're not really that interested in pursuing the franchise all that much anymore. I mean for one thing it's now outsourced, and not only that, they are more or less going back to their old formula. While that's not necessarily bad, it just makes the game feel uninspired.

But who knows, I'll definitely give this a rent at the very least.

i agree about the first half, but i WANT them to go back to the silent hill 2 style enemies and locations. since it was by far the best game in the series. BUT. silent hill 2 had such a haunting story that i cant imagine this beating it. they're going back to the silent hill 2 style, which i like, but i dont like that they maybe doing it at the expense of a character or storyline that makes sense for that location.

in SH2, it all felt right...in this it feels like its being hobbled together with no real thought.

same feeling for me...

And i have to say, it's too much "doomlike" or "Condemnedlike" with that doctor being killed and all that "realtime" scary moments...
I mean, it does seems less Lynch and more Eli Roth, to me...
I hope i'm wrong.
