Waiting for the final trailer which will be available later today, here are three new images of Grand Theft Auto IV, the same that were published on Evil Avatar and MTV. The explosion effects are really surprising and being able to ride on a bike in the metro is full of win!

The first shot is horrible and to be honest, I dont see the WOW factor in the explosions

yeah the textures are kinda bad, but I guess its alright cuz there's all kinds of shit going on the screen at the same time and that shouldn't have to slow the frame rate down

you can't compare both genres... the world in GTA is all rendered at the same time, no loading whatsoever from one island to another. while in Cod4 you got this pretty linear world, which can be rendered in huge detail. if you would implement that into a world like gta4 either the frame rate would be terrible or you would have loading screens every 2 blocks

You never know - things like explosions look a great deal better in motion, as the part captured in the screenshot will probably only appear for a second or so, maybe even less that that, as the sequences changes very quickly. Saints Row had the best explosions, but the occasional pause while waiting for the physics engine to kick in really spoilt it.

Well, Resident Evil 4 had HORRIBLE textures most of the time, yet it's still one of the best games ever made. I mean, you can be a graphic whore if you want, but one game can't have it all. GTA IV has no loading (maybe just before starting like San Andreas), sandbox gameplay, and much more to take into account so It's not that surprising. Will you really bother about textures when you play it, in motion? I think not. MGS4 is another case, I think Konami and the Kojima team have less of an excuse, i'll reserve judgement when I see how big the levels are, how complex objectives are and how sound/music/AI blend together before going nuts about the ZOMG UGLY textures like some people like to do.

GTA was never meant to be "wow" at screenshots, it is meant to "wow" people while playing it.

I'm no GTA fanboy--in fact I couldn't care less about a game series--but I can never get enough of all the graphical hate on GTA4. We've been through half a dozen of these games and people are still expecting to be blown away by one of its greatest weaknesses? It's pretty funny to me.

I'm more interested in the things that run in the background... like Euphoria and what not. There's alot of resource heavy tech running before the image is even on your screen.

eith 16 player online confirmed,and the whole city for u and ur friends to run amok in together...plus what is always a fantastic single player...this is the game I joined the next gen for..and im sure its gonna be the first game of the next gen that i consider to be well worth the hype and pricetag :)

Well, I am happy. You can't expect perfect textures in a game world as big as Liberty City plus the capability of playing it via multiplayer.

I never judge my games too harshly based on screens because they always look better on my HDTV anyways. Even so from previous shots I can tell the explosions in this game will be amazing.

GTA2 was the pinackle of gamegraphics, no need to argue about that.

In CoD4 there are only about 5 smoke effects such as from airstrikes etc at the same time.
In Lost Planet there are about the same.

In GTA4 there will be the possibility of a whole street of cars exploding at the same time, and it cant be too much of a slowdown since thats the point of gta games, mayhem.

So obviously, its different with 50 explosions than 5 uber-pretty ones.

So basically you mean that an RTS game like C&C3 should have the same resolution textures on its tanks as COD4 or Frontlines?

Come on guys, we've bashed GTA in damn near every thread for its graphics, lets look on the brightside now.


The damn last trailer is comming out today, so lets make this a "GTA rocks" place, we can say the graphics suck as much as we want, but at the end of the day, the videos look gorgeous, and if your posting in this thread your most likely going to be buying the game, i sure am.

Won't happen untill someone uploads footage when the games released, from what i've been told gameplay footage has never been released pre-release on a GTA title.
