Halo 3: The beta, now in motion!
2007-05-12 13:00:06 by BlimBlim
As promised, here is the first video from the beta of Halo 3, in 720p but shorter version so the size was acceptable. The full video in 640x360 will be online in about 30 minutes. More videos will of course follow.
Worth mentioning, the awesome performance of Snoopers, our own Benny Hill.
Update 1: Complete version in 640x360 available, as a stream too.
Update 2: Second video in 720p short version online!
Update 3: Long version 640x360 of the second video.
Update 4: Let's be done for tonight with this last 720p video.
Update 5: Some people asked for it, so there is the title screen and its music.
Update 6: As expected, here is the complete version of the first video in 720p resolution.
Update 7: This time I'm really done with this news. Enjoy the second video in full 720p glory.

I love the part where you die on the mongoose and do a faceplant into a rock. Looks fun as hell!!

Well, there's hope that multiplayer stays conservative to keep the action going at all times with the networking aspect of it and stuff like that, and that they're going absolutely bananas with the solo campaign.

I don't expect halo 3 to impress people in the fashion they expect. Like Gears of War. I expect the amount of stuff going on and the epic environments will be what impresses people.

Single-player cutscenes even.
At any rate the texture quality, character models and lighting all match the trailer so that's good, thank the maker Bungie included the movie editor, now we'll be able to capture some good pics for the inevitable comparisons.

Halo could be Halo 2 graphics and still impress me way more than Gears. I'm really not concerned with the fidelity aspect of it, I'm interested in contrasting and awe inspiring set pieces. That's where Halo 1 was jaw dropping and where Halo 2 failed to drop my jaw.
These images look decidedly Halo-y in a way that just doesn't tickle my interest, and since they're multiplayer maps I reckon I shouldn't expect them to be all that different. Still, multiplayer maps have traditionally been based on bits of the campaign, and the lack of new art direction here and the re-use of super familiar textures and objects is worrying.
I hope the campaign takes you places that are of vastly greater interest than the re-run that was Halo 2, because draping essentially the same environments in higher resolution textures and lighting models isn't gonna cut it.

Multiplayer looks awesome don't care what anyone says. The singleplayer will look better. It isn't even suppose to look two times better, but there will be aspects about it that make it look better than multi.

Halo 2 had downscaled grahics in MP, so has R6:vegas, GRAW 1 & 2 and the list goes on and on.

If you had paid attention to the Bungie updates you would know how much additional work is going into the visuals for the singleplayer.

Single
Multi
...but it's there.
Multi needs to be built around 4 player split-screen, campaign only 2 play split-screen, likewise Campaign needs to continually stream the level and handle AI whereas multi-player does not.
*Edit - And they're built by different teams too.
