First nice surprise of the year, Microsoft and Epic announced the the first Map Pack for Gears of War would be available on January 10 (or 11 depending on your time zone) and will introduce 2 new mutliplayer maps: Old Bones and Ravendown. A patch fixing the issues of the game will also be available a bit before that. And of course, it's free!
Update: Added a video presentation of both maps by Cliffy B.

Any specifics on what issues of the game it will fix?
The MP maps don't bother me since i don't have live, but some of the checkpoints in campaign are sucky.

• Fixed voice issue with new players joining Player Match games in progress
• Players can now get the Achievement for "Dish Best Served Cold" when using Troika turret to kill RAAM
• Fixed rare situation where host could loop countdown and never start match
• Fixed rare situation where players could get stuck after chainsawing in multiplayer
• Reduced Grenade Tag melee distance
• Enabled "Strict" NAT check on host to prevent possible connection issues
• Optimized server browser queries to return results more quickly and prevent scroll bars from hiding quality of service icons
• Reduced number of possible revives in Execution to match Warzone
• Removed host name from Ranked match server browser
• Disabled security cameras in Ranked matches
• Ranked matches now require balanced teams (3v3 or 4v4)
• Increased penalty for quitting a Ranked match to -50 points
• Added additional cheat detection code
• Additional housekeeping updates

Looks great.. Thanks to Epic for holding on to their tradition of rewarding gamers that bought their games with free extra content, and not jumping on the marketplace 'we charge for everything down to the smallest gamerpic' bandwagon.. Even if it's only 2 extra maps this time which compared to their PC UT mappacks is kindof small..
@crea8tivity, I think you can fotget about that because afaik Epic has never released SP content this way, only MP content in the form of extra maps..

How long will I have to live in order to see rendered tree ? not just some gif shaped like foilage. on the last picture or "ravendown" on the left side, look how sketchy it looks, reminds me of Tiger Woods 2006. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy GOW and the Unreal3 engine will provide huge fun in the upcomming years, but the tree must leave !

Actually the maps are free because the Discovery Channel is sponsoring them to promote a show called Future Weapons...there is also a XBL Point giveaway associated with it...I will try to find a link.

I think CliffyB said on the Gow Collectors edition, that Epic Games has and always will give the fans free "downloadable content", Just think of the Unreal games :-o
2 Maps is a pack, hmmm... atleast the patch seems to adress a good bunch of issues.
