Atari seems to finally be announcing the big gun manufacturers in Test Drive Unlimited, today presenting Audi and McLaren F1 in the game with these two trailers. It's a totally different feeling when you see the city Audi car rolling down on the streets, compared to the usual sport cars. Great stuff!

Has anyone played the Marketplace Demo yet ?

What are your opinions?

Yeah, the demo is one of those which just leaves you feeling empty to be honest.

You start off in your digital home and the only place you can go is the garage where you have a Lamborghini, Shelby and Lotus waiting to try out. Once you've chosen the car you drive out of your garage and are given a waypoint and guided there by GPS (which is a nice feature actually)

The main problem is that, while the graphics are totally acceptable and the in-car view is very nice (if not PGR level), the driving physics are bad. You get no sense of friction between tires and road at all so while bombing down a straight feels superb as soon as you need to make a 90° turn you realise you have very little control! It makes races very frustrating.

The Lamborghini dealership is awesome however and you can scrutinise the cars very closely, opening doors and windows and sitting inside taking in the interior.

They need to get the driving controls tightened if this is going to get anywhere near to the potential it has.

I actually thought the demo was ok though I agree with the timer. That was not a clever idea.

Remember though, the purpose of this test is to stress test the servers which is a VERY good idea. They will iron out a lot of the network issues by having such a large pubic beta if you will. I guess the limit comes from that. Don't agree but I can see why.

I'm sure graphics and physics will be tweaked in the several months of dev time left ( I think this comes out in Sept now.) Car handling is something that will be refined after user-feedback, which is the stage they're at now.

Bearing in mind this demo code would have been forked months ago, the demo is decent enough and at a good frame rate. I had a fun 10 mins until it crashed :/ . I think the concept is great so lets hope the kinks are ironed out from now on.

Damn, that's what I was affraid for.
was pretty hyped about this game, but never even thought about the actual driving.
If they want to live up to PGR 3 in that respect, they have a lot to do, cause that is what PGR3 does outstanding.

What game were you guys playing? I had no problems controlling the cars. Sure, I couldn't take a sharp turn at 90 miles an hour but name a car that could.

I will go play it again just to make sure I am not lying to myself but, I never once during the first two play throughs even thought about the controls.

i thought alot about the controls, i love the controls in PGR3 cause the cars handle quite well but in TDU it's just nasty. Hope they do something about it.

Played the demo and was slightly disappointed...
First thing I noticed is the HUGE world, which is good!
Graphics are sort of on par with pgr3, but significantly less poly's, especially the steering wheels (damn they are ugly!) in some cars.
But TDU has better artwork and atmosphere than PGR3, IMO.
Driving physics are not all that good, not Ridge Racer-ish, but not even close to PR3.
TDU does have a lot bigger game world, although I don't know if that's an valid
excuse.
Afterall, this game is about driving and that should be the main focus point.
I do think it could be patched up a bit before release, but I don't think it will be an huge improvement.
All in all, I do see the potential for a fun game here.

I played it a few times more and i can still say i'm disappointed about this game but when i learned a little more to control the vechicle it was at least quite fun. think this still will be a buy for me but i hope a later demo with some improvements will show up first.

Hi Blim Blim / Snoopers

Looking forward to seeing more of the presentation you filmed for Test Drive, I think this game has massive potential.

Never judge a game too harshly via screenshots or videos, because they are in no way capable of properly representing what the game truly looks like were you to see it running in front of you on a 360
