http://kotaku.com/5045594/grand-theft-auto-iv-tops...

This game is like the Energizer bunny. Definitely going to hit 15 million by years end . . . potentially more than that even. Who wants to take odds on 20 million?

And yet, I found it disappointing. :(

I don't think it'll reach 20 million, but 15 is a possibility. Especially with the upcoming DLC.

I agree. It's funny how many people are saying how terrible it is and yet still bought it. Not necessarily just from here, but everywhere.

It was dcefeinitely a good game with an awesome story, but there's hardly any replay value anymore. I used to play gta games just to play, run around and wreaking havoc and listening to good music. Now i only play it for ten minutes to get al little closer to an achievement. For me it's no more fun.

What's so funny about this? Wouldn't it be even more funny if they said they hate it and didn't buy it in first place?

I don't see how that's funny. I bought it because it looked like it had lived up to the hype. I got bored of it after about an hour, which isn't even an exaggeration. Wasting hard earned (okay, not so hard earned) cash isn't funny.

Falling victim to reviews either bought by the publisher or written by fanboys isn't funny, it's a bad situation to be in. The game has glaring flaws which every review should have pointed out. The fact that it didn't happen is just sad.

lol, this isn't saying anything about the quality, since it has little to zero competition.

GTA-IV was it's money worth.. I agree it has it flaws (although none really bothered me) and there's little replay-value (unless you like the online MP), but it still gave me more then 100 hours of good fun, I really enjoyed the SP story and co-op missions..

If you own a Xbox 360 or PS3 you need to play this game imho, so I'm not surprised it sells so well..

So far, in terms of time I'm going to actually enjoy playing it, ME was a much better buy.

Its just random things like, why are there no seat-belts?
Why is the gameworld so big, with so little to actually do in it?
Why is it easier to jump up 6 steps at a time than actually run up it?
In fact, why cant you run up it?
How can a police officer flying through the air call for backup instantly?
Why don't the police care about my millions of traffic violations, but if I nudge their car they start shooting at me?
Or actually, sometimes I nudge them and they don't care?
And like, they let a random person in to the airport grounds, but freak out if I go near the runway?
Or, it takes ages to kill someone shooting at their chest, but a single shot to the head and they die anyway?
Is everyone wearing body armour, even the civis?
But then they give you lock-on, and an easy nudge up to get a headshot, throw in a little bit of cover, and you're practically invincible?
Speaking of which, I can do that, mow down around 50 civis and police officers, and I'm only 4 star wanted?
But an unwitting helicopter pilot going over to another island (in the early part of the game) is instantly six-star wanted?
And like, Niko can carry 8 RPGs and launcher, 500 AR rounds and AR, 1000 smg rounds and SMG, a baseball bat, a sniper rifle and over 30 rounds, a pistol and over 1000 rounds of that, all in an invisible pocket, and yet he can't bring a packed lunch with him?

DUDE!?

Story presentation? yes, its worth a look, but beyond that it gets quite annoying.

Ditto that. So much work went into this game...saying it doesn't deserve to have sold so well is retarded. It does what it set out to do and it does it well.

@RC_Master, eeuh, it's a game??

Who cares it's not 100% realistic, aslong as it's fun..
Its not that it isn't realistic, its that some things aren't self-consistent. I can run along the ground, but not up stairs? WHY?

I was once going to go to the top of this apartment block, then snipe down on some of the civilians to see if the police would be able to come up the stairs to get me. About 4 flights up, at walking pace, I just thought "fuck this" and went back down. That was before I discovered that that jumping up the stairs was 5 times faster. Which to me, just seems kinda stupid when they put so much effort into making it so that his feet touch every single damned step in the normal stair animation.

Anyway, a lot of the time its not fun either. Just a chore.

Like, in MP. I go in, I run around for a couple of minutes, picking up ammo, armour, getting a decent car or heli, going to where the enemy players are, then get instantly shot in the head.

That was fun life.

Or, I go into a GTA race, 16 players (not my choice, it just filled up automatically). The race starts, and every single person piles up at first corner. My vehicle gets flipped, it get out and get run over. A firefight breaks out, and 8 people quit nearly instantly. I run away from the fighting, can't find any vehicles. Run down a few streets, along the course, getting shot at and run over. Getting frustrated now, no vehicles in sight. Decide to get an RPG and camp near a corner to get some money anyway, (because odds are, you'll get no money at all. even if you're fourth, someone will quit and you'll end up with nothing towards that most wanted achievement) and voila! vehicle that wasn't there before is now there. Awesome....

Fine, I get it, start racing, don't see anyone else for the rest of race. Last place... fantastic fun.

Perhaps, perhaps since I had never played a GTA game before, I had different expectations, higher expectations with all the praise lain on the series. Expectations of endless fun and self consistency. Unless you're screwing around with friend(s), its not fun, and even then, there are better games.

The only reason I will ever come back to GTA is for the achievements. And when i have 100% for my two top played games (CoD4 and Halo 3), that isn't saying a whole lot about its lasting appeal, especially for a game that apparently has so much to do. I'm already bored of playing it, and I'm still 30% or so away from completing the campaign.

(another side note: If going to every activity with 3 different friends isn't a chore, I don't know what is)

Like I said, the cutscenes are great to watch, there are some fun moments, it is worth a play through but beyond that, when I can commit traffic violations left, right and centre in a game with "auto" in the name, wanton destruction of civilian property (cars mostly) while there are drivers and passengers in the car, probably causing severe injury, all right in front of the cops, and they don't care.

But, punch someone (even a criminal I was trying to help catch for a random officer running around on the street), knock into their police car, OH GOD NO! get that person! It just doesn't seem right.

One last thing, I only mention the seatbelts, because sometimes, I can go pretty fast into a building, no consequences. Other times, I'm already slowing down, going pretty slow, and just fly out of the vehicle. Especially not fun when you're getting chased by cops... Theres no in-game explanation as to why.

Seriously... you're using your inability to play well as a negative towards the game?
Other times, I'm already slowing down, going pretty slow, and just fly out of the vehicle. Especially not fun when you're getting chased by cops..
See, I'm the opposite. I find it extremely fun when I get thrown from my car and have to proceed on foot at least until I can get another car. I'll use motorcycles whenever I can because I like the added risk of knowing that if I crash, I'll be tossed through the air.

If you want to talk about inconsistency, CoD4 seems like it's striving for realism, yet it features endless spawns and ai enemies that are essentially 'nade snipers. Doesn't make much sense to me.

I have issues with COD4s campaign as well. But hey, I don't play the campaign anymore, the MP is fun.

The whole, getting instantly shot in the head was an exaggeration, but it just seems like you're required to do so much walking / driving around to acquire anything decent, and it doesn't seem to make much of a difference anyway.

I will come back to GTA, thats a given. If for nothing else than to try and get a little closer to some of those MP achievements. And I'll give it another chance, try the MP for a little longer and see where the gameplay really is at. But although I found it engaging initially for its setting and plot, the core gameplay doesn't seem that great.

EDIT: I have completed the story part of the game BTW, in case that wasn't clear, the extra 30% is all side-mission type stuff.
