2008-09-03 15:44:37 Well if you ask me, RE5 needed to be something more than just a RE4 clone with HD graphics. Whether this is what it needs remains to be seen. --- |

The RE experience that we come to love has ended at 3, it seems ......... :( --- |

2008-09-03 17:16:47 finally they're getting rid of that god awful control scheme from resi 4, it was an improvement over the older resi evil's, but it still felt archaic as fuck. turing was a right pain in the arse. stopping to shoot wasnt much better either. it was the only part of the recent footage of resi 5 that made me cringe, that and the dated resi 4 death animations. at least now it will FEEL a little different. cos without a change up somewhere resi 5 was just gonna be more of the same. which is what i personally didnt want. |

2008-09-03 17:44:18 Good decision, RE4 controls are outdated. Hopefully Capcom will make modern, full-fledged controls system making extensive use of analogue sticks. There are better ways to bring tension and slower paced action than having bad controls. --- |

2008-09-03 18:30:32 Lets hope they mean what they say very loosely, RE should never be a duck and cover game, it's already shifted too far from what it originally was tbh without changing even further. |

2008-09-03 18:45:39 I'll just say that I disagree with the direction all out on the most fundamental level, and I actually do feel RE4 controls made that game what it is. |

2008-09-03 19:22:28 Wow thats just crap, they shouldn't even be calling this Resident Evil anymore. --- |

2008-09-03 19:53:17 It doesnt even say anything about changing the game to include run + gun in that article, all it says is that the controls would change. "Gears Like" could mean anything and its most likely gonna be related to the cover system. --- |

2008-09-03 20:17:47 I don't see how they're going to create the same feeling of panic and terror then. Having to decide whether to flee or fight was what made RE4 great. You could move a way, turn around and then find them just as close as they were before! I don't want Gears of War, I want RE. --- |

for me, resident evil lost its tension and horror aspects after the first game. and 4 practically removed any identity the series ever had. it wasnt fast paced enough to be an all out action title, but it sure as hell wasnt a survival horror title either. it was stuck between genres and it felt wrong imo. at least now resi 5 has a chance to be both amazing looking AND play like a modern action title, rather then a late 90's one. |

"Xbox 360 crowd's rigid expectations" is the best thing that could happen actually, FPS genre on consoles has standard controls that everyone follows and everyone benefits from it, the real battle is in gameplay area. No reason why it shouldn't happen for third person games. I hate the fact that for games like GTA4 I have to relearn an antiquated, inferior controls system because developers refuse to follow current trends. A human character in a third person game shouldn't be controlled like a tank from 1920s, which was basically the case for Leon in RE4. Capcom should move on and they are moving on for their own sake. We'll see if that's enough. --- |

2008-09-04 01:17:42 This is actually great news to me. RE4 was great, but I must admit the controls were a bit clunky....although much better than the original 3 RE games with their tank controls. I wouldnt worry about this ruining the feel of RE, I'm sure that they will still be able to create that tension of either fleeing or fighting. Just because they give us better controls doesn't mean that they wont still make us aim before firing like in other RE games. They can still have the "fight or flee" choices, but with better options for actually getting away or taking cover. |

Hopefully this will give them the freedom to improve the AI so it doesn't meander slowly towards you then wait an age to attack, the concessions to cater for the control scheme were actually starting to hurt the game pretty badly. Theres nothing more strange looking than a mass crowd of angry mutants charging at you, stopping, charging again, stopping and then eventually when they get in range they each take turns attacking you. |

RE5 is more a westernised shooter than a survival horror game which will please countless people, but they have lost many things that made the franchise good fot me, the zombies for one and the pressure of maybe being killed when you open the next door. --- |

And no, typical, predictable even, as in your reaction to this news, in this thread. |
